Biography

Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE is Mayor of Freetown, Sierra Leone, and Co-Chair of C40 Cities. A finance professional and Chartered Accountant with over 25 years’ private-sector experience, she champions inclusive, data-driven urban transformation. Her Transform Freetown agenda has delivered major advances in climate action, sanitation, revenue digitalisation and urban mobility, including 1.2m trees planted and tracked. She is Laureate of the 2024 German Africa Award and a Forbes Sustainability Leader.
